Nepal is one of the
most exciting countries in the world when it comes to bird
watching. Or actually, you don't have to be a bird watcher to
enjoy the avifauna. Birds are everywhere, and very often either
big or strikingly colorful. More than 800 species have been
recorded in Nepal. The diversity is truly remarkable: hornbills
and trogons of the jungle. Storks, anhinga (snakebird) and
jacanas of the wetlands. Laughing thrushes and babblers of the
hills. And still a healthy stock of eagles and vultures of the
Himalayas. Besides this, a big amount of birds from Eurasia
comes here to spend the winter. Blue throat, Siberian ruby
throat, orange-flanked bush robin, ducks and waders are among
these. So come here and enjoy. There is good bird watching all
around the year. The season is more or less like this:
* December-March: Good for resident
birds and especially wintering species.
* March-April: A time when a lot of
summer visitors arrive. Also good for birds.
* May: The best time for high
altitude species.
*June-September: Normally the rainy
season when the monsoon strikes the country. If you can handle
the wet and the leeches, still a very good time for bird
watching.
*October-November: Maybe the most
interesting period for migrating species. Especially for birds
of prey and cranes along the Kali Gandaki valley (Annapurna
region). Still all the other goodies, laughing thrushes,
flycatchers and babblers.
